2017 ACRA 7's Results

The 2017 ACRA 7's Championship saw Davenport University triumph in style as they won their group and then proceeded to shutout their opponents in the semifinal and final. But the tournament had plenty of action and surprises to keep the spectators in their seats.

On a beautiful if slightly humid day in Pennsylvania, 150 women descended on Kutztown University representing 10 schools to compete for the 2017 ACRA 7's title. In Group A, the University of Maine had a banner day. They went undefeated in pool play but only had one win! Three ties, one against defending champions Davenport, was testimony to their resilience and defensive qualities. Davenport and Maine advanced from Group A.

In Group B, it was a very composed and patient Boston University team that dominated, winning all 4 of their games. The hosts, Kutztown University, left it to the very last game of pool play to qualify as the number 2 team from Group B. The semifinals saw Kutztown University face Davenport while Boston went up against Maine.

In the first semifinal, Davenport swept aside Kutztown, 33-0, with Danielle Ordway repeatedly slicing through the defense to either score or set up others. Boston University was able to beat the dogged Maine team, 17-5, and the championship game looked like it would be a close affair.

As it transpired, Boston made a number of unforced errors early on and once Davenport picked up a couple of tries there was no looking back for the defending champions. After 14 minutes and a score of 39-0, Davenport could hoist the champion's cup.

Congratulations to Davenport University on being back-to-back ACRA 7's Champions!
